Are You Still Binging on CRAP food?
What is C.R.A.P Food?
Junk food refers to ultra-processed foods that have been changed from their original state so much that neither their look nor taste are like the ingredients from which they are made.
This is done through manufacturing process and also by adding ingredients not present in the original food, such as salt, fats, sugars, colors, preservatives and stabilizers.
CRAP food means unhealthy food. C-R-A-P stands for Carbonated junk foods, Refined Sugars, Artificial agents and Processed foods.

C – Carbonated Drinks / Chemicals
R- Refined Sugar
A- Artificial sweetners, colours
P- Processed Products
Carbonated Drinks / Chemicals

The C in CRAP foods refers to Carbonated Drinks and Chemicals.
One of the possible leading causes of today’s obesity problem is the consumption of carbonated drinks. One should minimize the consumption of carbonated drinks, lemonade, or similar drinks as much as possible.
Many of our food items contain chemicals such as azodicarbonamide, carrageenan, potassium bromate, soy isolate and brominated vegetable oil.
Presence of such chemicals in food is not a good sign and such food items should be avoided.
Refined Sugar

This CRAP foods category includes white flour, refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup.
These are mostly found in pastries, cakes and cookies.
Too much sugar may contribute to weight gain and obesity, one of the most significant lifestyle risk factors for developing cancer.
Refined sugar that comes from cane is usually sucrose, the combination of glucose and fructose. White and brown sugars are used to sweeten cakes and cookies, coffee and cereal.
Artificial Sweeteners/ Colors/ Flavors

Artificial food colors and flavors are high in fats and trans fats. Although these are designed to look attractive and taste good, they are unhealthy foods because they are high in sugar, fat/oil, salt, artificial flavorings and coloring or all of these.
Processed Products

Processed foods have chemicals added to increase shelf life and make food more convenient, but this has harmful side effects. Avoid food with labeling of sodium nitrate/nitrite and (BHA, TBHQ, BHT).
These include mainly packaged and processed meats, instant cook meals, chips and so on……
Effects of CRAP Food on Your Health
Ultra-processed foods are high in sodium, saturated fats and added sugars, which contribute to health problems like an increased risk of Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, lowered immune response and cancers. They are unhealthy foods which are Calorie-Rich but not rich in nutrients which are needed for good health, growth and development. Processing of food destroys its nutrients and generate free radicals which are harmful to health specially when consumed regularly. Foods within these categories can also cause bloating, increased cravings, and more water retention.
Conclusion
But instead of putting infinite limits to what can be eaten or not, awareness behind foods is important and it is good to search for better alternatives. We know that cutting out all CRAP is nearly impossible. It’s important to go by your cravings sometimes because no diet will be successful if you are depriving yourself.
“Consumption in Moderation” is the key and this will help you to identify and shift away from overly-processed foods.
