  • Headaches, one of the most common health complaints, causes pain and discomfort in the head, forehead and neck areas. Headaches occur regardless of age or gender.
  • Frequency, location and pain intensity vary depending on the type of headache.
  • Headaches are classified as either primary or secondary.

1. Primary Headache:-

What is a primary headache?
 
The primary headaches are caused due tom multiple reasons leading to chronic head pain in the absence of an underlying pathologic process, disease, or traumatic injury. The most common causes are migraine, tension-type headache, and cluster. Primary headaches can result from  lifestyle factors, such as certain foods, alcohol, stress, lack of sleep, or poor posture. They can either occur every once in a while or can be  chronic.

2. Secondary Headache:-

Individuals should consult a health care professional to receive a proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

  1. What is a secondary headache?
     
    Secondary headaches are symptoms of a disease or medical condition. Secondary headaches can be extremely painful. The secondary headaches are caused due tumours,  bleeding, concussions, stroke, head injury increased pressure in the brain or infections ( sinus infections, allergies). Secondary headache is the result of another condition causing inflammation of pain-sensitive structures. Headache due to psychiatric disease is also considered secondary.

3. Types of Primary Headache:-

Migraine: One sided headache. Common in Women. Multi factorial approach is used to treat migraine related pains.

Tension Type: A common headache causing a mild, non-throbbing pain circling around the head like a band.


Cluster-Type: A headache where pain is localized to one eye accompanied by redness, tearing and a stuffy nose.
